Busy, Busy, Busy

Wow - where did the time go? Excellent weekend of training. Saturday was good for a nice and toasty warm indoor trainer ride. Yea, I'm a wuss, but it's saddle time. I did the group roller ride from last Thursday and my legs felt awsome afterwards. Total time just over 2 hours. Sunday I ran 3.25 miles at an easy pace and hit the weights. Nothing crazy, just getting back into the groove after last weeks cold and lack of training. Today I squeezed in a 45 minute trainer ride after work and before my fire fighter meeting. Goal was to hit it and get so I rev'd up the cadence and spun like mad. Tomorrow is to the weight room in the AM for more grunting and groaning.
Looks like my race plans may change a little for this season. Dirtram caught wind of my desire to race Xterra is down with Afton or the Midwest Championships. We'll have to see how that pans out.
Tried out the new Cateye HL500 light on Sunday's ride to the gym. Holy shit Batman. Lot's punch in that little guy, I could even see in my neighbors windows with it. Score!
If you live in Hudson, keep you blinds drawn.

Saturday Ride Plans....

Can't waint till tomorrow.... Ride, ride, ride. Looks like I'll start with an early morning 2 hour warm up on the trainer. Nothing fancy, just get the saddle time in. Followed up by some Greenbelt and Gravel Grindin'. Things should still be froze while I'm out so if I hit some single track I should not damage it. I hope to get in about 3 to 4 hours. I will probably break at sometime for a 20 minute run, most likely in the Greenbelt. Damn, I'm so excited after doing nothing this week due to a head cold. Also did a little searching on Xterra Races in the midwest.
There are 4 races within 350miles. What do you think?? drive 350 miles, pay $60-$75 to race for 2 to 2-1/2 hours, then drive home 350 miles. Plus food, gas, and maybe a hotel. Is it worth it??
Kerkove - you travel great distances to race, how do you evaluate a race and if it's worth traveling to?

Cold over

Finally, I'm feeling close to normal. I've got some major training to catch up on. Saturday looks to be prime riding. 40+ degrees is a gooood thing. A little running and lots of riding are in the plans, unless the baby comes this weekend, that could happen. I know most people that read this are planning on riding Sunday but If anyone can go Saturday I plan on heading out in the AM. MTB and gravel will be the main ingredients for fun!!

PS - Dirtram is single and good lookin' if your interested.

All stuffed up

Well - It finally hit me, I unwillingly received my winter head cold on Friday afternoon. So, I have done nothing productive in over 3 days and it's driving me nuts! I can hear my bike wimper in the basement, I can feel my muscles asking for a workout, and my feet are asking for some rhythmic pounding. I cannot provide any of these.... I feel so worthless. On the upside I do feel better today and I hope to take an easy spin on the bike this evening. We'll see, I don't want to rush and stress my immune system, but I sooooo want to ride. Until next time.
Up with meds
Down with colds

Soggy Bottoms....

No I didn't shart myself, I'm talking about Blackhawk Creek. Has anybody see it? All the snow and rain and then warm temps have caused the damn creek to flood already. That's not cool yo, that's where are my off road trails are. I'm already bumming. I don't have time to drive to Sugar Bottom or Decorah. Hopefully we don't nailed in the spring like we did last year, more rain and all the trails will be toast.
Just wanted to share that, nothing else really going on.
Later.

Best part of wakin' up.......

Nope, it's not folgers in your cup. (Sorry Jeff) It's hitting the weight room for a little running and red faced grunting. Had a good workout this morning. Body has stopped aching from last week. I like the building phase of training because you can quickly see gains. It gets me excited to start racing, that and the weather has been really mild. Spring feels like it's just around the corner but I'm sure we have a good 10-12 weeks of crummy weather left.

Started shopping around for a windproof/rainproof packable shell for Trans-Iowa. The online stores are marking down all the winter gear so it's a good time to shop.

Tomorrow's workout will be a bike/run brick. For you non-trigeeks a brick is doing two disciplines back to back. Bike/run is the most common cause it's pretty shocking for your legs to go from non-impact to impact in about 10 seconds. A good brick every week helps to train your muscles for the switch.

That's all for now. Stop reading this and GET OUT AND RIDE!

Week of Pain

All I can say about this weeks training is OUCH! The building phase started on Monday and after the workouts this week I'm hurting. It's a good thing though, I'm certainly not complaining. Today was super nice so I headed out on the Rockhopper for a hour and a half of pain. Mr. 24 suggested the snow covered trails from Hudson to GW for a good power workout. A good power workout????? This man is nuts! Riding in that snow sucked, OUCH, OUCH, OUCH. After that fun little trip I hit a mile loop in the greenbelt on the off road stuff, then hit the gravel on the way home. In all a good ride with an ave HRM of 154bpm. I also managed a sweet little ice induced crash, and yes someone saw me. I smiled and waved. Rockhopper performed great, thanks Carlos! That's all for today..... my pasta and veggies are ready.

Back to Bloggin'

Whassssup ya'll. Back to blogging after a little bit of a break. If I'm not blogging I'm super busy. Been busting my ass on the baby's room. Jr could be here at any time!! This Saturday was super nice and every bone in my body wanted to go ride but I screwed up one of my projects that has to get done so I didn't ride and finished the project instead. Oh well, that stuff happens. I rode for 2 hours last night during the Super Bowl. My legs feel really good this morning so that's a very good sign. I start into phase 2 of training this week. That's good cause phase 1 was getting really booring. I hope to be able to sit on the bike for 6 hours by the end of the month. Trans-Iowa is starting to sneek up and I want to be ready for it. Speaking of Trans-Iowa Jeff and Mark drove the course over the weekend and he has posted some details on his blog site. This will be very helpful as I hope to immitate parts of the course during training. A round of applause for throwing in some single track in the middle of the course, nice job guys!

Not much else going on, we received 2" of snow last night to remind us we still live in Iowa.
It will be awhile before riding outside is fun.
Train Hard.
