Just some stuff

We have been busy the past few days but nothing too crazy to share.
Friday I went to Roots Market in CF and scored a few pounds of granola and some veggie stuff. Does anyone else think it is odd that a heath food and organic market sells beer and wine? Is this beer and wine better for you than normal store beer and wine?

Saturday marked Little Fish's (thats Ainsley) second swim class. She did great again and we took some video of her splashing around. It's really cool that she is young enough that she doesn't fear new things, she is really good in the water. We even put her under twice.
Saturday was also filled with lot's of rain but it cleared up later when Katie and I went to a friends wedding. It was a really nice wedding and the dance was fun. Yes I said the dance was fun. The family was cool and actually danced and the DJ did a nice job of getting everyone involved.

Sunday Ainsley was baptized at the Hudson Community Church. She did really well and the service was nice. Afterwards we had family over for lunch.
Just after everyone left we had a Fire Call for a car accident. It was an RV vs. a Cutlass. We had to remove one person from the car but I'm pretty sure she was ok, just a little scared.
Oh yea, it rained........all day.

That brings us to the dreaded Monday. I was actually looking forward to today because my boss is in Europe on business all week and I'm the "go to" for the department. I look at this as a good opportunity to show what I've got and see that things run smoothly. It is a challange being we are short 4 positions right now, but everyone has picked up the slack and is doing well with the added work load.

So, how about stuff more fun than work, like my new issue of Triathlete Mag came today. Big shocker it is all about Kona. I guess it's ok the whole issue is about Ironman, but because I'm not at Ironman level, nor will I be there anytime soon, this issue is a little disappointing. I prefer to read about the olympic distance guys/gals.

Tonight was a classic early fall evening so I went for a run. The air was crisp and it reminded me of my high school football game nights. I don't miss too much from high school, but those friday nights on the football field will always be with me. So feeling a little more peppy than normal I stepped it up bit to see where my pace was as I work toward a couple of late season 5k's. After 3 loops in the neighborhood I had 3.51 miles in at a 6:58pace. I'm ok with that at this point after my injuries. The best part was it felt good and nothing hurt. BONUS! As of now I'm looking at the UNI 5k on 10/15, the Grant Wheeler run on 10/22, and the Turkey Trot trail run in early November. All are 5k's and I think I can do well at them.

Time to shower and catch some sleep.

Thursday Funnies

No training to repost as I took yesterday off. Here are some funnies to put a smile on your face.

9 Things I Hate About Everyone

1. People who point at their wrist while asking for the time.... I know where my watch is pal, where the hell is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is?

2. People who are willing to get off their ass to search the entire room for the tv remote because they refuse to walk to the tv and change the channel manually.

3. When people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". Damn right! What good is cake if you can't eat it?

4. When people say "it's always the last place you look". Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you've found it?! Do people do this? Who and where are they? Gonna Kick their asses!

5. When people say while watching a film "did you see that?". No Loser, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the damn floor.

6. People who ask "Can I ask you a question?".... Didn't really give me a choice there, did ya sunshine?

7. When something is 'new and improved!'. Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn't be new.

8. When people say "life is short". What the hell?? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer?

9. When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks "Has the bus come yet?". If the bus came would I be standing here, dumbass?

While I was running....

Random thoughts that went through my head tonight as I was running.

My legs feel a little heavy.

Damn it's nice out.

Ha - they got TP'd again!

Eeeewwwww, road kill.

Why did that group of teen-agers have to drive by and yell at me, that's two nights in a row.

Can I do a 1/2 marathon in 18 days?

Monkeytron was right about the UNI homecoming 5K being on a Wednesday, must be a typo

I could eat a whole box of Snack Well mint cookies and it would only be 600 calories and 12 grams of fat, hummmmm.

That house has roughly 18 windows and light is coming from each one. They either have 1 light and no walls or the electric meter is going round and round and round.

I really want to host an adventure run in the Cedar Valley. I've been talking about it for over a year, time to shit or get off the pot.

I think I have JY and Citron Rob in on the Des Moines adventure race next year. I should make that a must for next summer.

I want a single speed MTB again.

and that was just the 13 minute run to the fire station to lift!!!

Tonights stats
13:04 - Run 144 ave hr
42:53 - Lift 114 ave hr
7:55 - Jog / walk / cool down to home 125 ave hr.
Total - 1:03:53 - 121 ave hr

Have a Great Wednesday everyone!! Ed out!!

No title today

I guess no title is a title but whatever, I couldn't think of anything clever. Just got back from 35 minute run and 10 minutes of stretching. This was my best run in months. I can honestly say I'm 80% pain free. I think the chiropractor is working. I feel more balanced and stretching is easier, my body is not fighting it's self.
I have also started to use an Arch Bandage. It is like an ace bandage that goes around your foot and supports the arch. For 5 bucks it was worth a shot and seems to do ok. If progess continues in a positive direction I may run the UNI Homecoming 5K on October 5th, well have to see. After missing several races this summer I've been looking ahead to next year for races I would like to do. So many races with limited time and little money, we will just have to wait and see. Nothing else exciting going on, time to take a shower and get some sleep.

Saturday happenings

Fairly busy day today. Had Ainsley's Shimp Swim Class at 9:00. She loved the water, kicking, splashing, and laughing. It was a really good time. We even put her under once and it didn't bother her a bit. I think we have a little triathlete on our hands!

After class Katie started to paint the new bathroom and bedroom doors. I hung the baby gate and started to move some dirt outside. That was going well until a hydrolic seal blew on the bucket. That's never good when your are borrowing someones equipment and you break it.
So I said the hell with it and watched the UNI vs Iowa football game. Even though Iowa won I think they are in for a rough season and I think UNI will do very well.

Around 5:00 I went for a trail run in the Greenbelt. The Trails have been mowed in the last week which is good and bad. The good is the weeds stay down. The bad is they mow it about the width of a 4 lane highway and it chops up the 2 foot twigs into 4 inch long ankle rollers. So you have to be careful. The run was good and included sand, fallen walnuts (ankle rollers) twigs, and a dead raccoon. Thats right a dead raccoon right in the middle of the trail. I also met a family of 5 riding their Wal-Mart bikes out there and some old guy riding a beach comber style bike in the dirt, that got a WTF?

That's all for now, congrats to Monkeytron for his 12th place 1/2 marathon finish.

Whaooo Friday!!!

Friday is here and I don't have to go anywhere for the weekend. I've been out of town for the past two weekends so I haven't been able to attend to any of the "around the house" duties.
Ainsley's 6 month pics are tonight. She's so damn cute, that cause se looks like her mommy.
Also, little Miss Ainsley has her first swimming class tomorrow morning. They call it "Shrimp Class". We get in the water with them and splash around. I'm looking forward to it, she sould be doing 100's by the following week, my little triathlete!!

Other things - hopefully my material shows up today so I can start making some stuff, fun fun.
How come most of the blog pictures are not showing up on my computer?
Yesterdays trip to the Chiropractor was interesting. Got the back and neck smashed again and then we tackled my achilies pain. Found out a couple of things - my right ankle was locked and could not move to the outside causing a bad stride. He corrected that, weird but it worked. I also have flat arches and he recomened custom inserts. They are 75 bucks so I'm not sure if I'll do it or not, but I probably should.
I ran for 30 minutes last night and I felt pretty good. Finished up with stretching and 20 mins of pilaties (sp) ab workout. Damn that is hard, gotta have a strong core though.

That's all for now, should be able to get out this weekend, maybe even a trail run.

What's going on?

Busy couple of days, here is the review.
Thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement from my last post. Shows how tight our little circle of friends are, it's cool, thanks guys.
Monday was a late workout, didn't get started till after 10:00pm. Ran for 10 minutes, lifted for 25 minutes, and then ran home 15 minutes that included a cool down. Body feels pretty good, achilies is sore but there is hope (more on that in a minute).

Tuesday I went to the back cracker. I changed up the doc and I'm really glad I did. Went to Dr. Johnson here in the industrial park. He is the team doc for the UNI Rugby team and said he has several marathon runners and 5 or 6 triathletes he works with, so he knows sport injuries. He explained that there are 27 places were you can be "out of adjustment" and I was out in 10. He beat on me pretty good but I instantly felt better. As I was checking out I asked about my achilies and he said it is possible my ankle needs adjustment and would help release tension on the tendon. He could be feeding me full of shit but I say it's worth a shot. We are going to try it on tomorrow's follow up.

I ordered material today for my first proto-type cycling item. I think it's going to be a really nice improvement on an existing product. It will add some nice adjustibilty without added cost.
I hope it works out as planned.

Speaking of making things, my parents have purchased a new house in Waterloo and the shop is moving with them. There is already a building on site for the shop so that worked out nice. I will be there tonight with my dad tearing out all the old tile and sheet rock. I'm excited because the shop will only be 10 minutes from my house and it also has bike trail from their place to mine, Brilliant!!!!

Back to work.
Have a wonderful afternoon.

Back at it full force.

Hello everyone, I'm back and here to stay. I have made a decision to back part of my life. I have realized that it is ok to tell people "no" and make time for myself and my family. I looked back this weekend and couldn't believe how I have let the people and things most important to me slip. Katie told me the twinkle in my eyes was gone, that's not cool. Time to take that back. Ainsley is 6 months now, 6 months!! Holy Cow, and I have missed way too much of her growing up so far. Taking that back too. This year I had plans for 5 triathlons and only did 2. That's weak. I'm taking the indirect advise of the great Monkeytron and bring everything I've got to training, racing, and my life. I'm going to at least catch a couple of local 5k's this fall and set a new PR for that distance, I can and will do it.
Ok that's off my chest and it's time to rock and roll again. It's not going to be easy, nothing ever is. I know one thing, myself and my family will be happier. Thanks for reading.

Now, I have a question. I work in an office with several people and about once a week somebody brings in cookies or donuts. My question is what is the fear of taking the last cookie or donut? I see it every time. The first 11 pastries are gone in 3 minutes, but # 12 just sits there all alone, drying out to it's crusty doom.

Later everyone.
ED
