5 More Days
and it's on! First Tri of the year and yes I'm very excited. I ran the race through my head a dozen times last night while trying to fall asleep. Swim start, T1, the bike, T2 and the run. I have it all planned. Weather may be a question as now they are calling for rain Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Overall weather was good this past Memorial day weekend. Got some good training in. Saturday was builder brick that I felt very sluggish on. Started on the bike for 60 minutes divided into 3 sections. 20min in Z2, 20min in Z4, and 20min in Z5. Following the bike I hit the run for 5min Z1, 5min Z2, 5min Z4, and 3 min Z1. I will not lie the run was not fun. Lungs were my big issue, legs felt fine but I just couldn't get a good breathing pattern. Sunday my legs felt very snappy so I did a TT to the Family Video Store in Waterloo and back home. Legs felt really good and I am really digging my new TIME pedals. The large platform really lets you hammer with out the fear of clicking out. Yesterday was a good tempo run, so I feel good heading into next Sunday's race. My plan for the rest of the week is to run/bike every other day with no days of complete rest. My body responds better that way. If I take a day off it takes two workouts to bring life back to the legs.
Hope everyone has a good first week of June, hopefully summer is finally here.

Busy, Busy
Where has the week gone? I’ve been so busy at work it’s nuts. Trying to do the work of two people, that will end next Monday. For training I’m going with some high intensity work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Next week I will keep it pretty easy leading up to the race. If anyone wants to really hit it hard Saturday early AM let me know. Dirty Dirtram is sending down my wheels to finish the “Pimpism” on the Slingshot, SWEET. Not too much else to say, finish my Boca chicken and veggies and slam a glass of Emergen-C.
Back to Work.

Hey Driver, let's roll
Yes, I'm already driving Ainsley around like Miss Daisy. Been very busy last few days. Saturday AM was 50 mile ride with Kelly through New Hartford, Shell Rock, Finchford, and then to CF. I felt very sluggish the whole ride but I got through it. I then finished with a 25 minute run that included some hill repeats through Adam's trail.
Sunday the legs felt awsome and I did a 35 minute negitive split run on the half miles. This also felt very good.
Monday night was a 40 minute fartlik around Hudson. (yes that reads fart) 3 really good days of training and I'm starting to feel good about Pigman Sprint. A couple more swim sessions and that will also be pretty solid. The swim is only 8 minutes of a hour plus race. Weather is turning around so get out and train hard.
Enough for now.

Who's reading this???
Ok foos, time to come out of the closet. Who's reading my blog, any runners or Triathletes? I have a couple of reasons for asking.
#1 - Looking to get a group together to run about once a week. Trail runs, pavement runs, tempo runs, fartlik runs. It's just more fun when others are involved.
#2 - Same goes for cycling and brick workouts. More people that are around the harder you push and the faster you get! Anyone up for Saturday AM rides?? You don't have to be a Tri-greek. I get along with most everybody, and don't worry about being fast on the run or bike, I'm not!
#3 - Seeing if there is interest in an Endurance Club. Anybody that likes pain and likes to go long.
Triathletes
Runners
Cyclists
Adventure Racers
Kayaking
Climbers
You know, fun outdoors stuff.
Hey Ted - what do you think about a 12 hour race at Volga? Would the course be hard enough?
Ok enough, I'm done, have a great day!

Catching up
I know I haven’t posted for a few days. I usually post at work
because I consider that “free time” in my busy schedule.
Saturday we had a grad party to attend in West Liberty so the family went shopping at Coral Ridge Mall, home of the largest Scheels in Iowa. The cycling community is much stronger in the Iowa City / Cedar Rapids area so they have several bling, bling bikes.
Like (insert drum roll) the Trek Madone 5.9 Lance Armstrong Special Edition with 24 carat gold leaf decals. It’s ok if you are drooling on your keyboard right now, I am.
Price…….$10,000. And there’s your reality check.
I also checked out the Tri bikes. They had 2 QR models (not impressed) and the Cervelo Trueno (not impressed). Too many corners cut in the wrong places on these bikes to keep the price down. All of them had cheap seats and the QR’s didn’t have any adjustability on the aero bars. It would be difficult to get the proper fit on these bikes, and fit is everything. I’ll stick to my Slingshot thank you.
OLN was bringing it on Sunday. Kayaks, mounting climbing, Greg Lemond, Lance, and Tour of Italy. That was enough to make me restless.
As everyone in the Cedar Valley knows the weather has been off and on for the last month or so, very frustrating. Late Sunday evening the clouds finally broke, sun came out and the winds died down. Katie took one look at me and said get out of here. Whooopeeeeee! I hit the eleven double oh for a paved trail ride into the greenbelt, then a 20-minute trail run on one of my favorite loops. Apparently nobody else likes my loop because it is becoming over grown quickly. I need to borrow Ted’s Grim Wreeper stick and do some maintaince. After the run I hammered on my ride home and then cooled off for 12 minutes. The whole workout felt really good. If I can stay on a schedule for the next 3 weeks I’ll do well at Pigman.
I have a 50-mile road ride planned on Saturday AM with Kelly, hopefully the weather is good. Anyone else care to join in?
That’s enough blabber for today.

No Title, Why do I need a Title
Random again.
I don’t feel like forming a complete sentence, let alone a paragraph.
I don’t like rainy weather.
I have a big itch to race right now. Anything…. Trail Run, 5k, TT, Mtb, I just want to go
Out and hammer on something.
2006 Trans-Iowa????? I need a cross bike! Donations?
I wonder when I will compete in my first IronMan? I would need a lot of time to train.
In the next few weeks I want to ride the CV Nature Trail to CR in the early morning.
Any takers? Ooooooh maybe on the Single Speed.
A leg massage would feel really good right now. Maybe I should hook that up.
I wonder if I will be able to race with Dirtram this year? I would love to do Xterra but
It just won’t work this year.
Balancing work, family, training, and racing sucks. I would like to win the lottery.
Is that too much to ask?
Mainly Lou’s has lot’s o’ pasta for little dough.
Rollanda is going on a major diet, probably tonight. Pictures to come.
Ted says Ulrich is in great shape, I must get out there soon.
I need to ride Volga, Ted says it's a 15 mile lap. No getting dizzy there.
Races I want to do……
Endurance Mtb races
Tri’s
Xterra
Trail Runs
Adventure Races……. I need to rename my blog to Multisport Jeff.
If you would have told me that I would enjoy these sports this much when I was in
High School I would have said you were nuts.
Ok, I’ll leave everyone alone.

Weekend Review
Hello all, sorry for the lack of posting. I posted on Friday but our server at work was buggin’ out and I couldn’t up load. I hate that, write for 15 minutes and then it’s gone.
Anyway, Friday morning was wonderful. Left the house at 5:15am on the eleven double O headed to Peet Jr. High for a swim. I love swimming in the morning but I don’t get to do it very often. After the swim I rode to work, showered and slaved away for 9 hours. Ok, I didn’t really “slave” I worked a little and surfed the net looking for a deal on Look Pedals. (shhhhh, don’t tell anyone!) After work I rode home, into the wind for some good training and then called it a day.
Saturday was super busy. Hudson had their annual garage sale around town so all the freaks were out looking for deals on useless crap. My cousin Nikki and her family stopped to see Ainsley; nobody wants to see Katie or me anymore! Nikki’s husband Ross is a Cat 4 road racer so we have things to talk about which is cool. I did a ton of yard work in the afternoon, then Saturday night another cousin had a grad party than we attended.
Sunday was Mother’s day so we took things pretty easy and did little to nothing. It’s good to have a day like that every now and then.
Now we are to Monday. Katie wants to work from home tonight so I’m on Ainsley patrol until 9:00 or so. I’ll probably head out for a run before the day is over. My legs finally feel normal after the cramping last Wednesday at the TT. I’m going to double check some measurements on the Slingshot and make sure it matches the Trek. It’s odd for my calves to cramp unless something on the bike is off.
Congrats to Mr. 24 (www.jeffkerkove.blogspot.com) on his 2nd place finish this weekend.
Hope everyone has a great week.

The Jackal
Carlos da Jackal said 50 miles of Trans Iowa was not enough. Here he is busting out a 4th place finish in his age class at the Decorah TT.
J-Lo's boyfriend???
Here is a Picure of E-pu from Smith's in LaCrosse carving the single track at the Decorah TT.
Pasted
Yea, that's what happened to me at the TT last night. 28min and some change, OUCH. I rode the Slingshot in on the newly paved Hwy 63 trail which is very nice. Si-yo-nira to Ho-Chi-Min trail, I will only ride this disaster of hard surface when Clay comes to town. Met up with the Jackal (www.carlosdajackal.blogspot.com) at the TT, hung out for a bit and then it was go time. My goal was to hammer the entire 10 miles. I lauched off the start and was feeling really, really good. After about 4 minutes I was only 10 seconds behind the rider in front of me, I pushed a little harder and then it happened, calf cramps. Locked me up the rest of the race, my out split was actually better than my in split. After the race I headed off for a run that was pure pain. Oh well, do you think a triathlon isn't painful?? The one good thing about the TT was I pegged my heartrate from the start and I didn't have any problems dealing with it. I even saw 170bpm.....Me 170!!!
So, I have a base line for the next 4 weeks of race prep. I know what I need to do to meet my goals. My base training is far better than last year, now it's time to work on speed. I'll be alright come June 5th.
Good luck to Mr. 24 this weekend. www.jeffkerkove.blogspot.com
Have a great day!

Finally a Nice Day
and it's on Wednesday, which means Time Trial. There are going to be some really fast times tonight. The weather is perfect right now, very little wind and mid 60's for temps. I'm hoping to ride the newly paved surface on the 63 trail into the Time Trial, race, do a 20 minute run, and then ride back home. Fun, Fun. I hope to see several people out enjoying the day.
Not much else going on.
