Happy Halloween
Yep, holidays are better with kids. Check out my little Hershey Kiss!!! She gave out gobs of candy to the little boys and girls tonight and had a blast.
Just got back from day one of the 2006 training plan. All went well, I'm only lifting light weights. Up and down, up and down. Speaking of light, my legs feel great, they haven't felt this spunky in a long time. I hope this lasts as I plan on running in the Turkey Trot November 12th. This sounds like a really low kep romp in the woods. Those of you who enjoy the dirt and have been thinking about geting back into running,(Jackal hint hint wink wink) or maybe you want to run this event but haven't in the past, (Citron Rob), or if you are planning on coming back to the valley sometime in November, (Dirty Dirtram) keep it in mind.
That was the longest run-on sentence ever!
I also have a bloging question. With my new site I have noticed that only on select computers my entire left side bar shows up at the top of the page. On some computers it is all the way at the bottom left and looks stupid. Any ideas? How does my page look on you computer?
Ok, need sleep.

Bla's
I have the blaaaaaaaaaa's. I think the daylight savings thing has got me down. I'm all off with everything, I look at the clock thinking it's 5:00 and it's like 2:30. I'll just have to get use to it.
I've spent most the day watching Ainsley as Katie is really sick. I have also done some laundry and spent way too much time on the net not finding what I'm looking for. I've been looking for a deal on winter running pants and jacket. Trying to find the waterproof/windproof combo to keep the elements out. Anybody have any suggestions on good products. I'd like score some Craft products but they are a little spendy. Kind of leaning towards some products from Hind at the moment.
I have also written the first two months of my training plan. The action starts tomorrow at 5:00am sharp in the weight room. 2006 will be busy, but fun and the best season so far.
Have a great week everyone!

One of those days
A little Joke
Sorry folks, I've been super busy and have not blogged much. No new developements on the training side of things. Still kind of searching for plan, I have been doing a lot of reading on base training, it is very interesting. Maybe I'll share some of what I have found a little later on. For now I leave you with a joke.
Have a great Friday!
Two little kids are in a hospital, lying on beds next to each other, outside the operating room. The first kid leans over and asks, "What are you in here for?" The second kid says, "I'm in here to get my tonsils out and I'm a little nervous." The first kid says, "You've got nothing to worry about. I had that done when I was four. They put you to sleep, and when you wake up they give you lots of Jell-O and ice-cream. It's a breeze." The second kid then asks, "What are you here for?" The first kid says, "A circumcision." And the second kid says, "Whoa, Good luck, buddy, I had that done when was born... Couldn't walk for a year.

Shoe Wallet
Check this little guy out at www.shoewallet.com. I have read a couple of reviews that say this doesn't flop around and is a great way to carry a key and some cash. No, the reviews were not from the manufacture, I found them on a couple of running blogs. Looks like a good idead to me!

Botox for the Blog
As some of you have already noted I gave the blog a bit of a face lift Sunday night. I still don't have all the kinks worked out, ie Ted's blog won't link and I couldn't get JY's to go either. Don't worry friends, I'll get you hooked up. I also plan on making a cool header and adding more links. I seems to be that time of year when everyone starts to look forward to next season and scope out races. I'm going to take my mothers advise and not jump off the bridge with everyone else, you'll just have to wait for my 2006 race list. I will let you in on this, there WILL be a trail run hosted by myself and maybe some others in early May of 2006. My goal right now is to keep the life balanced and stay consistant in my training, something I have never done well.
Tonight I am having a hard time typing cause I hit the weights pretty hard. Here is the program I am following from www.trinewbies.com.

Whasssup
Hello all, just sitting here at the shop running some parts on the CNC Lathe and thought I would check in. A little bit of this, a little bit of that going on. Fires have not really slowed down so far this week. We are having about 1 field fire a day, which is common this time of year. I heard last night during our fire training that the meth heads are now importing meth in tequilla bottles. I guess the meth crystals dissolve in water making them look like tequilla, then they evaporate the water and poof, meth!
I read on monkeytron's site that Chad likes to go for a run around 4:00am, WTF
What is everone else doing at 4:00am? I hope sleeping.
I rode the slingshot for the first time in ages last night. Yea, it was on the trainer but I ride when I can. It had been so long since my last ride my form was terrible, then again it was never good to begin with.
Grant Wheeler 5k Saturday, as of now I plan on attending.
Time to set up and run Carlos a spacer for his single speed. I'm going with food grade stainless steel in case he ever wants to eat wild trail berries off of it.

Unexpected
I didn't see this coming. That's a first place 24-30 age group medal. Holy cow! It was a little cool this morning when I arrived at the race site. I registered and then warmed up with some jogging and streching. I wasn't sure if this was a grass or cement run. It was grass, and I didn't bring my trail shoes. That was stupid of me, but oh well. 130 racers started just after 8:00. I got off fast with the lead group and quickly settled in. The grass was wet and slick so you had to pay attention to where you were stepping. This was a two lap course with some short ups and downs. I was able to gain a few places on the hills by attacking with some quick turnover. I finished 14th out of 130 runners and 1st in my age class. Finishing time was 20:48. Slower than I had wanted but hey, I took home some hardware.
Now we are off to Heartland Farms with Ainsley to get some pumpkins. I plan on catching some football later also.

Lunch
The following just took place at Wal-Mart over my lunch break.
I watched 8 people go OUT the IN door. I have come to the conclusion that reading is now an option in this country.
I saw a redneck mom raise her hand to smack her toddler. She stopped when she saw I was watching. It took everything I had not to say anything.
Wal-Mart was running one of their free sample displays. Usually you see some type of processed beef product at these displays, not today. They were handing out free samples of a Fiber Suplement. Are you kidding me!!!! Who's gonna knock down a shot of colon cleaner in the middle of Wal-Mart!
In less than 2 minutes I was able to purchase a propane torch and a turkey sub. I hate to admit it, but I find that impressive.
And the icing on the cake. I watched a guy unload his cart and then toss the cart 70 or 80 feet into the side of the cart rack. He even looked back once to see if it would make it. I couldn't stop myself, I spoke up. I said, "Nice shot, It must take years of practice to become that lazy." He stared at me, I smiled and got into my truck. What a Jack Ass.
Ok that's it. 5k tomorrow morning, weather should be nice. I'll give a race report afterwards.

I'm Running in the Rain....
Just Running in the rain, what a wonderful feeling. Ok not really a wonderful feeling, it's a wet and cold feeling. I wasn't out for 2 minutes on tonights run and it started to lightly rain. Oh well, the temp was still pretty good so I continued on. 22 minute run and then some weight lifting, I felt pretty good. Now on to several little tidbits.
Mad props to Mr. 24 for throwing down in the country of the rising sun. Dude has gold in two countries!
UNI 5k is this weekend. 8:00am Saturday morning at the grass fields to the west of the UNI dome. Chad or Clay or Rob - Is this a cross country race?? I'm all for it if it is. Would you suggest normal shoes or trail shoes?
I've been having some odd feelings about the upcoming races. I have mixed feelings about racing because I'm unsure of how fast my times are going to be. I know it's just a 5k and not a big deal but I'm never happy about a race unless I'm faster than the last time I raced that distance. The last 2 5k's I did I set PR's. So does that mean I won't be happy unless I go under my last 5k time? It's just something I've been fighting in head and wondered if anyone else has ever felt this way. I know I need to get past it and just run and be glad I have the chance to race.
Sounds like Carlos da Jackal needs a spacer kit for his new single speed project. I may just have something up my sleeve for him. Wha-ah-ah-ah-aaaah
Oh, Dukes of Hazard is on!!!
I will leave you with a saying for the week, this comes from how things are going at work for the past month.
Common Sense - Something so rare should not be called common.

The Breakout Cycling Product
I've been talking for over a year that I wanted to get into making affordable and useful cycling related products. Today I present the first of many ideas. I'll explain it the best I can, all questions are encouraged and feedback is welcome.
Project #1 is a bike transportation rack for truck, suv, van, and wagon use. The unique feature is this rack will have mostly interchangeable parts allowing it to be used with or without the rear wheel mounted to the bike. This proto-type is made with wood but The finished product will be made from Aluminumumumunum or maybe a plastic like material called delrin, we'll have to see.
How does it work? Your front, or fork base, is made from 2 solid rods connected on the ends with end caps. End caps will have velcro on the bottom to help hold the rack in place. The end caps are held on with set screws but easily removed to add the fork bases. The bases are 4.5" x 5.5" and will have 4 through holes and one slot in the middle for fork mount adjustment. The four through holes will allow the fork base to be used as a fork base or as a bottom bracket support base. 1 design for 2 functions keeps the cost down for the consumer. Fork bases will also have set screws to keep them in place when needed. This set up will give you all the adjustment you would ever need.
The bottom bracket support would be used when you don't have room to leave the rear wheel on the bike. By adding 2 rods, a fork base, and a bottom bracket 1/4 cup mount you will be able to safely transport your bike with limited space.
I have not decided if I want the unit to be used as 2 independent "L" shaped brackets or as 1 large square unit. I have to say you will easily be able to trasport 2 bikes, 4 people and all your luggage in your suv with this set up. It will cost less than an a Thule rail mount system and your bikes will stay dry. That is pretty much it, let me know what you think and take a look and some close up pictures below.
Thanks for stopping by.

Bottom Bracket Mount
This is ugly but gives you the idea. The finished product will have a padded 1/4 cup to support the bottom bracket and then a support strap to hold it firmly.
Fork Mount
This is a pic with the a fork mount I already have. I am also designing my own fork mount. When done this set up will have top to bottom, side to side, and rotational movement. The ultimate in versility.

I just want to mow the lawn!
Today is Sunday and I'm at work, yea work. Having to come in on the weekend to catch up really sucks, but what sucks more is the inventory software we use for EVERYTHING is down.
So, I really can't do a damn thing. I guess I'll blog a little bit.
Saturday I decided to mow the lawn so I go out and start and the grass just looked like I had a butter knife under the mower deck and not a sharp blade. So I turned the mower over and took a look, the blade wasn't much of a blade anymore. It had several nicks and rounded edges. So I called Sears and they had plenty of replacement blades so I went in and purchased a new one.
Got back home and couldn't get the old blade off. So I fired up the air compressor and busted out the 1/2 impact, did my best NASCAR impression and had the new blade on in 32.69 seconds. I mow the side yard and then started on the front when all of a sudden the front wheels stop turning (it's self propelled). I had smoked the belt that goes from the drive shaft to the front wheels, aghhhhhhh!!!! I said the hell with it and manually pushed the rest. Usually not a big deal but self propelled mowers don't push easy without the front wheels turned on.
After all that I had a little steam to release so I went on a 3 mile run. It was good and I felt all better when I returned.
Late afternoon we headed to Marion to see our friends Katy and Neal. Watched some football, talked, and ate pizza. It was a good night.
So far today is off to a start like yesterday, hopefully with some positive thinking I can make today a good day at home. I'm thinking about doing some more proto-type work.

Super quick
Hey everyone, I'm back. Thanks to Anisley for filling in while I was away. Work has been killing me for the past 2 weeks. Hopefully tomorrow I'm done with the 11 and 12 hour days but my guess is I have another week left. I have not been able to train much, just 2 maybe 3 runs a week. It's getting harder to get them in super early and / or super late with the colder weather. I'll still be doing the 5k's if anyone else cares to join in!!! That is all, back to work.
Better posts in the future. Maybe some pics of a project I'm working on.

Ainsley's Photo Blog
As you may have noticed Dad hasn't blogged for a few days so I'm taking over. He's been busy at work and I'm cute, he's not. Don't worry he has been training and will be ready to hit a couple of 5K's soon.
Now, on to me! This is me Thursday at the park with my mommy. It was so nice of her to take me outside and play. I love the swings! Weeeeee

Oh, that Daddy is soooo funny. He tickled me till I was blue in the face after his Saturday afternoon trail run.

Hey look , I found some of Dad's bathroom reading material. Where's Kona??
